RED ALERT!!!! – THE HUMAN BRAIN HAS BEEN SHRINKING FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS
Most people don’t know this but the human brain has shrunk dramatically through the millennia of the history of mankind.
Scientists are in some disagreement as to whether this shrinkage started thirty thousand years ago, or ten thousand years ago, but they agree that the brain has shrunk by 8-10%. The brain has in fact been shrinking for the past 100,000 years albeit at a slower rate.
Another conundrum for evolutionary biologists is why the human brain ‘evolved’ to be so big in the first place! It gobbles up an extraordinary amount of energy. It only takes up 2% of our body weight, but uses 20-25% of our energy intake – far more than any other organ. The more the brain grows, the more energy and nutrients it takes away from other vital organs.
The necessity for such a large brain in evolutionary terms was thrown in doubt by Professor John Lorber’s study detailing individuals who somehow managed to function normally with an IQ over a hundred with nothing more than a sliver of brain tissue. One boy had an IQ of 126 and a first class honours degree in mathematics, despite the fact he had “virtually no brain”. A CAT scan showed the boy’s skull was lined with a thin layer of brain cells to a millimeter in thickness. The rest of his skull was filled with cerebrospinal fluid. The young man continued a normal life with virtually no brain.
From over 600 scans of people with hydrocephalus Lorber documented that just under 10% had 95% of the cranial cavity filled with cerebrospinal fluid. Half of this group were profoundly retarded. The remaining half had IQs greater than 100. Sceptics have claimed that it was an error of interpretation of the scans themselves. Lorber himself admits that reading a CAT scan can be tricky. He also has said that he would not make such a claim without evidence. In answer to attacks that he has not precisely measured the amount of brain tissue missing, he added, “I can’t say whether the mathematics student has a brain weighing 50 grams or 150 grams, but it is clear that it is nowhere near the normal 1.5 kilograms.”
All this brings up startling questions:
WHY DID THE HUMAN BRAIN GROW TO BE SO UNNECESSARILY LARGE IN TERMS OF OUR EVOLUTIONARY SURVIVAL AND PROGRESS?
WHY DID THE BRAIN MAINTAIN THIS SIZE FOR SO LONG DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT USED UP SO MUCH ENERGY?
WHY DID IT SUDDENLY START TO SHRINK 30,000 YEARS AGO? IF THE SIZE OF THE BRAIN IS A SIGN OF THE EVOLUTIONARY PROGRESS OF AN ORGANISM, DOES THAT MEAN THAT WE ARE WE NOW DEVOLVING? IF A SMALLER BRAIN IS ALL THAT’S NECESSARY IN EVOLUTIONARY TERMS, HOW DID THE BRAIN GET TO BE SO BIG IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I am reminded of a book called ‘The Song Of The Greys‘ by Nigel Kerner.
Of all the humanoid alien types that feature in reports of sightings and abductions, the most common is “the Grey” – smooth and sallow-skinned, small in stature, spindly and thin. Who are they? Where do they come from? What do they want from us?
They have programmed in to their intercepted lines of mankind all the mechanisms necessary to keep their experiments intact and functioning. Racism and tribalism are a case in point. What better way to keep experimental groups separate in order to avoid one experiment leaking into another and affecting the final result, than to programme separatism and tribal identity into the experimental subjects. Source: An Interview with Kerner
In 1998 when the book was published, long before this affirmation about the shrinking brain size, he made a stunning case for the suggestion that we did not evolve from a sea-worm. We ‘devolved’ from something much much better than we are now. The large brain is just a remnant of what we once were, that’s why it’s shrinking. Kerner also suggests that the 95% of the human genome that does not seem to code for proteins was also at one time in the ancient past used in full. We have, in other words, lost 95% of our potential through devolution.
This is not the first time I’ve found confirmations for stuff in this book. Kerner insists in the book that human lineage includes a Neanderthal input. Research into mitochondrial DNA claimed to prove that this was impossible. But research published last year suggests that Neanderthals may well have contributed to the human gene pool after all. (‘The Neanderthal Within’ – New Scientist 03 March 2007.)
In fact several of Kerner’s suggestions in the book seem to be have come almost prophetically true since the book was written. I read it last year and the amount of things he mentions that have already happened is unbelievable.
Kerner’s not a creationist though thank God!! If he were I’d have put the book down sharpish. He suggests that the difference between us and the animals is freedom of scope, freedom to know, be aware of and make a vast range of choices outside the status quo. So, if we are ‘devolving’, we had more freedom of scope in the past and if you trace that right back to our beginnings, we would have been perfectly free with no limit. That perfect freedom you could call ‘God’ and Kerner does. But the refreshing difference is that he says we made our own free choices to understand what it might be like not to be perfectly free. We chose to experience the one thing we couldn’t experience from the state of perfect freedom – limit. If ‘God’ is all knowing, says Kerner, then that knowing would kind of have to include a knowledge of what it’s like not to know all. Sound strange? It won’t if you read the book and see the full argument. It was just what I was looking for, as I could never relate to a creator God, but could never figure how our existence could be explained without one.
So basically, Kerner says that humankind in the past was a less hard wired more ephemeral sort of being that gradually devolved into a more and more physical type of being through the action of the second law of thermodynamics, with time, to a point where we became a sort of monkey man.
Another angle on this is his radical and extraordinary theory involving the Grey aliens that feature in reports of alien abduction. He suggests that when we reached our current devolutionary point we became susceptible to interference by these entities that come from elsewhere in the universe. These alien biological robots (he calls ‘roboids’) are, he says, genetically engineering us to serve their purposes to this day. This interference has modified our present form of Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Could the creation story of Adam & Eve describe just such a genetic engineering exercise, he asks. Could the taking of Adam’s rib to make Eve describe a cloning procedure?
He claims there were many more of these genetic interceptions previous to this. All of them leading to a point where these alien things harvest some of us for what he calls our ‘soul fields’. A ‘soul’ is the only eternal mechanism in ‘a universe of diminishing returns’, as Kerner puts it.
He asks: Could we have DNA codes in us now that bear the hallmark of that interception? He then names specific DNA codes, they call them trinucleotide repeats and alas, they seem to resemble something that a cloning mechanism would produce. The biggest irony, he says, is that the Greys don’t realise that they can’t, with physical means, get a handle on something that’s not physical, simply because they only understand the physical. So the tragedy lies in the damage they do in trying to reach what they can’t reach. Converting us, via abduction and genetic manipulation, to be more like them, in the vain hope that they can bridge into our souls that way. Making us, in other words, more like machines.
Kerner gives evidence to show that the great religious teachers, including Christ, came to warn us of this fact. More disturbingly he claims the UFO phenomenon is in fact the harbinger of this mal-intent on the part of this alien power and it continues to this day. A continuity that may well end in the final harvest of those whom he suggests are the more suitable types of human for an alien purpose: The ‘Euro-Caucasian’ genotype.
Read this hugely interesting book and you’ll find it explains most of the conundrums we now face through scientific discoveries and actually ties in and affirms religious belief in a Godhead, in a way that is quite brilliantly logical. The book was first published in 1998 so it’s out of print, but I searched around and found that you can still get it from the book’s website www.songofthegreys.com I bought this book for every member of my family. I believe it is the greatest favour I could do them in this world.
Bigger brains than necessary, shrinking brains with time, evolution?????
I don’t think so.
