Who are these new protestors in many cities?
Who is their leader?
What do they want and what is it all about?
This is a little bit about the New Movement…
|People inherently KNOW that something is wrong with society; they FEEL it. They see suffering; the poor; the horrible employment situation of very few jobs available in a New Recession. People are angry. They see the ones at the top of the social pyramid. These are the rich; the fortunate ones who HAVE. Then, there are the not-so-rich (the masses, worldwide). They are the unfortunate ones; the HAVE NOTS on the lower rungs of life.
America voted for Obama, but really we voted for CHANGE. Middle East Wars were supposed to end, not escalate. Troops were going to come home with a Black Democrat in the White House. Instead, more and more soldiers were deployed. Other warfronts appeared. Everywhere on the media; TV commercials; sporting events; anywhere we turned, there were chants and banners that read: support our troops! What the overwhelming commercialism of our soldiers and militarization gets you is…masses that support WAR.
Some years ago, this writer and hippie from the ‘60s-’70s wondered, ‘where are all the protests? Why aren’t the youth protesting the useless, illegal, fictional wars going on in the Middle East? You know…the land where our inspectors had already found no trace of Weapons of Mass Destruction? Where were youths protesting on campuses across the country as they did in my time of Vietnam?’ Instead, today, the youngsters do what was unthinkable forty years earlier. They VOLUNTEER for war! Of course, this is done because there are very few jobs for young people outside of the military. (convenient).
Now, with the reasonably peaceful mass-eviction of ‘Occupy LA’ and ‘Occupy Philadelphia,’ I have a better understanding of what this is. What is Occupy Wall Street? IT’S TIME. It wasn’t time before for any type of leftwing movement to surface; that was not possible. NOW must be time for seeds of freedom to finally start to take root; because the landscape has been so utterly barren for a whole (YUPPY) generation.
Why did the entire social terrain change in the sixties and definitely by the seventies? The answer is because how conservative, straight-laced, narrow and proper the decade of 1950s was; people had to rebel! Present times (economically) are far worse than situations of the 1950s. Naturally, the general public will revolt. But, who is the enemy?
The answer is Big Brother; the State; the ‘establishment’ or ‘the man.’ As ‘Occupy’ has aptly named it…the real enemy is the top ‘1%.’ It is a few super-rich families that literally OWN EVERYBODY! ‘They’ consider US as only commodities to be sold or mere consumers ‘They’ sell to. See the film, ‘Wag the Dog’ to understand the BS of the media. The 1% truly wags or controls the rest of the dog, meaning us, the 99%. Look to the dollar bill and see the full social pyramid. It is the supposed ‘Eye of God’ or our lords and masters with lines of illumination that rules over all of us in the bottom pyramid (99%).
A few decades ago, Todd Rundgren wrote a song called ‘Swing to the Right.’ That message scared this writer because it predicted the end of the 1960’s Love Generation and Peace (anti-war) Movement. Well, it’s time. It’s time for a Swing to the Left. I predict the Occupy Movement will spill over to college campuses. It will become ANTI-WAR because we do not need to protect America thousands of times more than we should.
Let us work for the end of countries and a movement toward a Star Trek-like society where we are ONE PEOPLE on ‘Spaceship Earth’ (as Buckminster Fuller suggested). A futuristic system should be employed to GIVE the poor public what they need. The answer is not magic; it must come from compassionate billionaires, corporations, fields of science and technology, etc. But, truly…it must come from the HEART…from the hearts of those on top of the social pyramid.
Our cultural systems and concepts of governments/countries originated from the Dark Ages. These archaic ideas must be abandoned. It is our obsolete, 1% ‘masters’ who truly hold every card over us. Instead of the Powers That Be creating wars and new methods of depopulation…a far greater challenge would be to actually educate and AID the masses, rather than committing the continual genocide of eliminating them.
‘Take all that money we spend on weapons and Defense each year and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it WOULD many times over, not one human being excluded…’ — comedian, Bill Hicks
‘…THE WAR IS NOT MEANT TO BE WON. IT IS MEANT TO BE CONTINUOUS. THE ESSENTIAL ACT OF MODERN WARFARE IS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE PRODUCE OF HUMAN LABOR. A HIERARCHICAL SOCIETY IS ONLY POSSIBLE ON THE BASIS OF POVERTY AND IGNORANCE. IN PRINCIPLE, THE WAR EFFORT IS ALWAYS PLANNED TO KEEP SOCIETY ON THE BRINK OF STARVATION…’ — George Orwell, from ‘1984’
(General Custer and only a few men with the guns and the power…are very afraid of all us INDIANS. We have great numbers on our side).
PS: A shocking documentary from 1983 was called ‘Seeing Red.’ Interviewed were very old men and women who were, in a sense, ‘rabble-rousers’ during the Great Depression. In those poverty-stricken days of breadlines and soup kitchens, these activists were standing on soapboxes preaching to the rich. Early COMMUNISTS (socialists, really) in the good ol’ U.S. of A. were responsible for the start of unions and fair conditions in the workplace…by demanding it. Decent work conditions, that we take for granted today, came from compassionate revolutionaries whose cause was to help those in need. Later, the great experiment of socialism failed as socialists (and pacifists) were seen as ‘reds,’ ‘pinkos’ and enemies to capitalism under McCarthyism.
Interviews of the early socialists contained statements like ‘you think YOU had a revolution in the sixties? Huh!’ It dawned on this writer that these first revolutionaries took it on the chin for all of us and we owe them a lot of thanks. It was also haunting or uncomfortable to think that these wonderful people with good hearts were regarded as evil COMMIES in their later years. Can you see the repeat of cycles (the curse and blessing of time)? Revolutions are waves that repeat. Everything repeats, in time. What came around in the 1930s and was corrupted and tarnished…was the very same thing that again appeared in the 1960s throughout the planet. And, what came around in the sixties might come to fruition in the 2020s. The World Movement will have a different style than in the recent past, but people are the same…generation to generation.Copyright 2011 DOUG YURCHEY
